The Impact of Social Media on Public Opinion and Political Campaigns
Abstract
In recent society, social media has had great importance in the way that it shapes public opinion about current politics and campaigns. In this paper, we study how social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…) has changed the political landscape by facilitating democratic processes and its inconvenient consequences. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the effect of social media on public opinion, with a particular interest in how political candidates make use of these media to change the way voters perceive them. The use of targeted advertising, viral content, and data analytics to shape political messages and then mobilise voters is examined. Finally, the paper also considers the negative effect of social media, such as information dissemination, cause of echo chambers, and enhancing political polarisation. Using case studies of recent political campaigns, the paper illustrates social media’s use for both improving democratic participation and influencing the public sentiment. Finally, when analysing the role of social media in politics and their ethical concerns, the paper finishes by highlighting the problems of privacy, use of data, and accountability of tech companies. Though social media can strengthen democratic engagement, the research suggests that its potential to do so has equal potential for harm and requires careful regulation so as to not degenerate into divisive incitement of an ignorant and emotive electorate.

The Influence of Education on Social Stratification and Mobility
Abstract
Social stratification is a foundational concept in sociology, referring to the hierarchical arrangement of individuals and groups within a society based on factors such as wealth, income, education, occupation, and social status. It determines access to resources, opportunities, and privileges, shaping the life experiences and outcomes of individuals. Education, as one of the most critical determinants of an individual's social and economic standing, plays a central role in either reinforcing or challenging these social hierarchies. It serves as a mechanism for transmitting cultural values, skills, and knowledge, but it also mirrors and perpetuates existing inequalities in society. For many, education is seen as the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and achieving upward social mobility. However, the accessibility and quality of education are often influenced by pre-existing disparities, raising important questions about whether education truly serves as an equalizer or if it exacerbates social divisions.

The Nature of Reality: Exploring Ontology and Metaphysical Perspectives
Abstract
The question of reality has fascinated philosophers, scientists, and thinkers for centuries, forming the foundation of metaphysical inquiry. Ontology, a branch of metaphysics, seeks to answer fundamental questions about the nature of being, existence, and the structure of reality. What does it mean for something to exist? Is reality an independent, objective entity, or is it shaped by subjective perception and consciousness? These inquiries touch the very core of human understanding and influence disciplines ranging from philosophy and theology to physics and artificial intelligence. Ontological debates often grapple with profound dichotomies—materialism versus idealism, realism versus anti-realism, and dualism versus monism—highlighting the complexity and depth of metaphysical thought. While some philosophers argue that reality exists as an objective framework independent of human experience, others contend that it is a construct shaped by perception and consciousness. The exploration of these competing views is crucial for understanding not only the metaphysical foundation of existence but also the implications for human knowledge, ethics, and even technological advancements.

The Paradox of Freedom: Exploring Autonomy and Determinism in Modern Philosophy
Abstract
The question of freedom has occupied a central place in philosophical inquiry for centuries, raising fundamental concerns about human agency, moral responsibility, and the very nature of existence. At the heart of this debate lies the paradox of freedom—a conceptual tension between autonomy and determinism. On one hand, autonomy is often celebrated as the defining feature of human nature, embodying the capacity to act according to reason, values, and individual will. Philosophers such as Immanuel Kant have argued that autonomy represents the moral and rational foundation of human dignity, enabling individuals to shape their destinies through conscious and deliberate choices. On the other hand, determinism presents a contrasting perspective, suggesting that human actions, like all natural phenomena, are governed by causal laws and external conditions. From the deterministic standpoint, freedom may appear illusory, as actions are ultimately shaped by biological, psychological, and environmental factors beyond an individual’s control. This apparent conflict raises an essential philosophical question—can humans truly be free in a world seemingly governed by deterministic laws, or is freedom a subjective construct masking the reality of causal necessity?

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

A Woman with a Stethoscope: Exploring the Life and Legacy of Dr. Jamini Sen
Abstract
In the late nineteenth century, the intersection of colonial policies, social reform, and nationalist aspirations led to growing concern about women’s health in India. Social constraints such as purdah and the seclusion of women in the zenana made access to medical care particularly difficult, prompting a demand for indigenous women physicians. This paper examines the life and contributions of Dr. Jamini Sen, one of the earliest Indian women doctors trained both in India and abroad. It traces her educational journey, including her distinction as the first woman to receive a prestigious medical degree from Glasgow University, and explores her work in advancing women’s healthcare across India while combating male domination and racial discrimination.

The Mising People to Assamese Society and Culture: The Contribution of Folk Food: An Overview
Abstract
The Mising people, also known as the Miri, are an important ethnic group belonging to the Man-Tibetan branch of the Mongolian racial stock. While they identify themselves as Mising, people in the plains of Assam commonly call them 'Miri.' According to the Hemkosh Dictionary, 'Miri' refers to a tribe of mountain origin that has lived in the plains for a long time. In the past, the term 'Miri' covered a wider area, including the entire region from the eastern Himalayas in the north to the plains of Assam in the south. This term did not distinguish between mountains and plains but referred to the various hill tribes mostly living within those geographical boundaries. More specifically, it applied to tribes in the border zone of the vast Brahmaputra Valley, stretching from the Dihang (also known as the Chiang) and Dibang Valleys in the east to the western border of the Darang district. Today, the Mising population is mainly located in eight key districts: Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Sonitpur, and a few others. These areas are central to their settlements and reflect their rich culture and historical presence in the state.

The Social Construction of Identity in the Digital Age: Virtual Communities and Self-Presentation
Abstract
Traditional ideas of selfhood are being transformed in the digital age by the increasing shaping and performance of identity through online platforms and virtual communities. With an emphasis on how people present themselves and negotiate their identities on social media and in virtual spaces, this paper investigates the sociological mechanisms that underlie the social construction of identity in digital contexts. Utilising current sociological theories and empirical research, it emphasises how digital identities are fluid, multifaceted, and frequently performative, influenced by interaction, technological affordances, and more general social control mechanisms. The study highlights how digital platforms serve as both venues for self-expression and creativity and as places where social, political, and economic factors shape identity formation. It also looks at the conflicts that exist between carefully constructed online personas and real-life experiences, posing queries regarding privacy, autonomy, and the effects of identity fragmentation. This paper offers a thorough examination of how virtual communities function as crucial spaces for redefining individual and collective identities in a world growing more interconnected by fusing viewpoints from digital sociology, social psychology, and media studies.
