| Abstract | The rapid expansion of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Andhra Pradesh has created an imbalance between institutional capacity and student demand, affecting educational quality and sustainability. According to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE), Andhra Pradesh has a large network of higher education institutions, with more than 6,000 colleges and universities serving approximately 2.5 million students. However, several private institutions experience low enrollment and significant vacant seats due to excess sanctioned capacity. This study examines how overexpansion contributes to financial stress, faculty shortages, weak regulatory compliance, and declining academic standards. The paper recommends institutional rationalization and quality-focused planning. |
